It’s Football Time in Oklahoma.
Part 1
It’s time. No more excuses.
You’re no longer short-handed due to an offseason mass exodus to the portal because of the unexpected departure of your predecessor after the 2021 season. Unlike 2022 when Dillon Gabriel was spending more time in concussion protocol than the huddle, your QB is currently healthy. Nor is there a proception that the refs are trying to screw you because you’re leaving the conference like many asserted during the 2023 season.
It’s time. No more excuses.
The disastrous hiring of Seth Littrell at OC has been remedied with the hiring of Ben Arbuckle, who promises not to ask his tight end to pass the ball. Jackson Arnold took his bad mustache and his propensity for giving the ball away to Oxford, MS. His replacement, John Mateer, arrives with a proven record of excelling in Arbuckle’s system … and you’ve even gone back to your area of expertise, which is calling the defense.
Year 4. Game 2.
For Brent Venables. It’s time.
A Saturday night prime time match-up at home against Big 10 power Michigan. A win would go a long way in building confidence and momentum and could serve as a springboard to a big year, improved recruiting and a change in the national perception of the program. More importantly, it would help change the perception of those in the Sooner Nation who have been anxious for any sign of progress.
A loss, and well, the questions will grow louder as to whether Brent Venables is the guy to lead this program back to prominence … or the guy who is leading this program into the melting pot of mediocrity to become the SEC version of Nebraska.
For Brent Venables, It’s time to Win.
